This tool, “The Iteration Matrix,” is an interactive workspace designed to help you deconstruct your business idea and build clear, testable value propositions, which the lesson calls “Keys.”

Here’s how it works, step-by-step:

  1. Step 1: Deconstruct Your Business Idea
    • You brainstorm different possibilities for the four core components of your business: WHO (your target market), WHAT (the outcome you provide), WHY (their deep motivation), and HOW (your delivery method).
    • As you add items to each column, they appear as tags below the input field. You can also click “Load Examples” to see a pre-filled matrix for inspiration.
  2. Step 2: Create Your “Keys”
    • Once you’ve added ideas, this section appears. It contains four dropdown menus, one for each category (WHO, WHAT, WHY, HOW), populated with the items you just brainstormed.
    • As you make selections from the dropdowns, they dynamically build a “Key Statement” for you in real-time (e.g., “I help Parents to achieve More Energy…”).
    • When you’re happy with a combination, you can click “Add This Key to My List.”
  3. Step 3: Your Potential Keys & Next Steps
    • This final section displays a list of all the “Key Statements” you’ve saved.
    • It also provides a clear recommendation, reminding you that your next mission is to take these statements and test them in the real world to see which one resonates most with your audience.

Essentially, the tool guides you from a collection of vague ideas to a set of concrete, powerful statements you can use in your marketing and sales conversations.

The Iteration Matrix

Let’s brainstorm the variables and start cutting your keys.

Step 1: Deconstruct Your Business Idea

Break your idea into its core components. List as many possibilities as you can for each category.

Step 2: Create Your “Keys”

Your Key Statement:

I help [WHO] to achieve [WHAT] so they can [WHY] via [HOW].

Step 3: Your Potential Keys & Next Steps

Your List of Keys to Test:

  • You haven’t added any keys yet.

Assessment & Recommendation

You’ve successfully moved from a vague idea to a set of clear, testable hypotheses. Each “key” you’ve created is a potential solution to a specific market’s problem.

Your mission now is to become the locksmith. Take these statements and test them against the market. Use them in conversations, in your social media content, and in your outreach. Listen for the “click”—the one that gets a consistently positive response. That is your signal to move forward.
